We are delighted that you are interested in starting a yoga practice and are here to support your journey.

Hatha

If you are looking for a ‘general’ yoga class to improve your flexibility and strength and quieten your busy mind with some meditation and breath work you may prefer to start with our hatha classes.  Hatha is a steady and mindful practice, to strengthen and align the body whilst improving your  suppleness and stability.

Astanga

If you are looking for a more dynamic class but with the same benefits our astanga classes are open to all levels. Whether you are just starting your yoga journey or are a more experienced practitioner you are very welcome to come and practice with us.

Courses: - If you prefer to start with a step by step approach, we offer six week beginners Astanga courses to deepen your understanding of the Astanga practice.

Tuesday evenings in the studio and/or online Jan 12 - Feb 16 2021

The course price is £120, with 2 additional online classes from the timetable or the option of a 1-1 class.  Please book your additional classes once you have started the course so that you can use them within 12 weeks of the start date of the course.

Our six week courses offer you the opportunity to learn the foundations and critical aspects of the ancient practice of Astanga yoga, a practice steeped in wisdom and backed up by modern science. The course is suitable for anyone new to yoga or looking to deepen their knowledge and develop their practice.

Spaces are limited to 6 people and we have 3 studio spaces available as we will be combining the class in the studio and online. ideally we will see each of you for 'some' studio classes during the course, but if you prefer to stay online you can.

During the six week course you will learn:

  • The fundamentals of breath; breathing techniques (pranayama) and the impact of breath awareness for a yoga practice.
  • Fundamental poses (asanas) of an astanga practice - applicable for any yoga practice.
  • How to develop a deeper level of awareness and concentration
  • Accessing postural ease through developing strength and flexibility.
  • Relaxation techniques to quieten the mind.

Astanga is a traditional form of hatha yoga that offers a clear foundation of yoga principles and practice. As an Astanga studio we choose to base our beginners course on this practice as it offers such a comprehensive foundation for any yoga practice.

To book a space please go onto our booking and timetable page and find the first date of the course selecting ‘beginners course’ for your payment. Please read our protocol carefully before coming to the studio and if attending online, we will send you a welcome email and the zoom code each week at least an hour in advance of the class.

3. Shortened Astanga classes...

Tuesday  7.30-8.45pm and

Thursday 6.30-7.15am

Join Sarah for these supportive classes to learn the  fundamentals of an Astanga practice. Your strength and flexibility will improve together with a deeper awareness and sense of purpose.

These dynamic classes are a wonderful way to start or maintain your practice and to prepare you for the full guided primary series classes and for a Mysore (self practice) class.

These classes are suitable for those who have the motivation to learn this wonderful method of healing, cleansing and toning the body, mind and senses.

We finish the class with a deep relaxing savasana practice to balance and absorb energy and stillness.

Note. There are several ways to start an Astanga practice. a beginners course, shortened Astanga classes and Mysore. It is not imperative to start with a beginners course and however you choose to start we are here to support you all the way.
